Almost 1,500 valves for wastewater treatment in Dubai

Dubai, the thriving, dazzling metropolis on the Persian Gulf, is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates and is famous for its skyscrapers and high-rise buildings. Dubai is, of course, home to Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world. 

In July 2004, the municipality of Dubai announced to the city's more than two million inhabitants that it was going to invest several billion dollars in a major wastewater clean-up project. Until then, huge sewage trucks could be seen driving through the city streets every night, transporting sewage from the waste wells into the only 30-year old and fully overloaded sewage purification plant, which was located outside of the city.

The planning phase started quickly, and ALAHMADIAH AKTOR entered into a joint venture with AKTOR SA of Greece. The Jebel Ali wastewater treatment plant was built on 675 hectares of desert to the southwest of Jebel Ali Free Zone.

Construction stage 1, which consisted of building a plant with a capacity of 150,000 m³ / day, was completed in September 2009. Construction stage 2, which consisted of doubling the plant to a total capacity of 300,000 m³ / day, was completed in April 2010.
